Haley Stevens, having lost her party's Senate nomination, has endorsed the man from the other party, days before the vote, on the well-established principle that if one cannot win, one can at least ensure nobody enjoys it. Republicans welcomed the endorsement with the cautious delight of people finding a tenner in someone else's coat.
